OVERVIEW
Bryn Athyn Church School, located in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, has been a central hub for education and community life for more than 60 years. As part of a major campus redevelopment, the school prioritized creating a modern, flexible library environment that could support evolving learning styles while maintaining its role as a shared space for students, faculty, and the broader community. The goal of the new library design needed to balance aesthetics, functionality, and long-term adaptability, all of which are key considerations in today’s K–12 educational environments.

Initially, the project called for traditional millwork shelving and a built-in circulation desk. However, this approach limited flexibility, future reconfiguration, and finish customization. Working with Space-Strategies, the project team identified the need for a more efficient and scalable solution that aligned with both budget requirements and design intent. The goal was to create a customizable library storage system that could evolve alongside the school’s needs, while also delivering a cohesive, high-end look.

The final solution featured modular library shelving and mobile storage, including Spacesaver Flex carts with cantilever shelving, paired with laminate tops and end panels to match the overall furniture aesthetic. Additional stationary shelving was designed to maximize space between windows and in back-room storage areas. A custom circulation and reference desk from Hamilton Casework provided durability, design consistency, and long-term value.

By sourcing these elements through the FF&E package instead of the general contractor, the school gained greater control over design, budget, and product selection. The result is a flexible, future-ready school library that supports dynamic learning, enhances space efficiency, and can easily adapt as educational needs continue to evolve in the years to come.
